Referrers

Referrals from GP’s, nurses and midwives for consultations and procedures can be sent via the following pathways:

If a thorough referral has been made (including history, examination, relevant investigations ie bloods, swabs, smear, scan if indicated) then a pre-consult is not required and the patient can be seen for the procedure appointment only.

Under the Minor Gynaecology Primary Options for Acute Care pathway, residents in Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley and Te Whatu Ora Wairarapa locations may be eligible for funding towards the following procedures:

●      Mirena insertions - for management of dysmenorrhoea, heavy or irregular menses or endometriosis

●      Pipelle Biopsies - investigation of intermenstrual/post coital bleeding or post menopausal bleeding

●      Ring pessary fittings - management of pelvic organ prolapse

This is fully funded for those who hold a valid community services card or live in Quintile 5.  Those who are suffering financial hardship are partially funded and a co-payment will apply.

Under the Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) pathway those aged 15-44 who hold a community services card, live in quintile 5 or are at high risk of unplanned pregnancy/poor health outcomes receive a fully funded consultation for implant insertion and/or removal or IUD insertion and/or removal.  This is only in the context of providing long acting contraception.

Once the procedure has been completed, results are returned to the referring GP or a patient can opt to continue care under Kapiti Women’s Health Clinic, however charges will apply.

If the referral received is beyond the scope of standard practice (ie a threadless IUD removal or use of cervical block) an additional copayment will apply to cover the associated costs of this procedure.
